Fishing Empty

[Creative title, I know]

It was morning, the dew drops glowing with sunlight as it rose from the horizon, gradually blanketing the area in warmth. A few miles from Bowerstone, a tent was pitched at the edge of Bower Lake, near the fishing dock. The red fabric looked rather worn and dirtied, and was held up by a few strong branches, tied with rope. A loud snore could be heard from within, and if one were so inclined to look, they would find Kaio Shoemaker snoozing peacefully, curled up like a baby, hugging his hammer as if it were a teddy bear. While this would seem silly to any passerby, Hammer was in fact on guard most of the night, and fell asleep with it in his arms. Mystic had taken quite an amount of time pushing and pulling his body into the tent as she took over. Rather than clutch her weapon for dear life, begging for bandits to come by for action, Mystic had forged a rather sad fishing pole together out of a branch, string, and a small hook they found buried nearby.

She now sat on the edge of the dock, fishing pole grasped in both hands. Even though the equipment was shoddy, she seemed quite serene, her foot barely grazing the lake's surface, creating a small circular ripple every time it touched the ground. She hadn't had much luck so far, just a few small lake fish and some old tin cans, but every instance that something tugged on the other end, she got a childish giddy rush and would real it in excitedly. And she was also cleaning the lake of the litter that infested it. She could practically feel the halo floating above her head.

Her Will User clothes were tucked into the back, freshly cleaned. Seeing as she had little money of her own, as Hammer always had lots of it but spent it on himself, she had resorted to wearing the ones he outgrew as his built his physique. A white tunic with a v neck adorned her top, the neckline too large and drooping around her left shoulder. She wore no gloves, and her delicate hands held the rod steady. She wore black trousers, the suspenders loose at her side. The only thing feminine about her outfit were the small brown boots that adorned her feet, the tips slightly wet from the lake. She whistled to herself, watching the sunrise break through the trees.

Another day, the same old mission. After ridding the cave back in Oakfield of Hobbes, Savant had made his way back home to Bloodstone. It wasn't long, however, before he was once again forced to return to Bowerstone. The same woman who had stolen from his crew was spotted again, this time trying to sell the pendant she had stolen. Little did she know that she was selling to a member of Savant's crew.

So Savant found himself in Bowerstone again, following a dead trail. The woman had escaped yet again and he was heading home after a night spent in the Cow & Corset--the inn, not the tavern.

As he trotted along the path back toward Bloodstone, Savant let out a loud yawn. It was morning--more morning than he cared to experience. He began to whistle to himself as he walked.

Passersby would immediately recognize him as a hero, even if they didn't know his name. Savant wore a pair of blue-and-white striped pants with big black boots. As he walked, he could feel the fabric of his pants rippling in the light breeze. Wearing a plain black shirt, a long and heavy pirating coat adorned his back. He wore no hat today, opting instead to let his blond hair wave in the wind as well. As usual, his cutlass lay in its scabbard on his back, diagonally so the hilt appeared over his right shoulder. And at his side was his trusty pistol, hidden underneath the coat.

After about an hour of walking, Savant decided to take a short break. It was a nice day and he was still tired. When he found a nice place to sit down by Bower Lake, he looked around. There was a dock nearby, for fishing and not boating. And at the end of that dock was what appeared to be a boy, if not for the pretty long hair. There was a tent near the base of the dock, with someone snoring obnoxiously inside. They were probably about thirty or so feet away, so it was difficult to see the girl's face, especially at the angle he was at.

After a few moments, he began to notice some things about the girl. The way she was holding herself, the grace with which she pulled at her little makeshift fishing rod... It was all somehow familiar. And then it hit him.

"Well I'll be damned," he said. How was it that every time he went to Bowerstone looking for that thief, he'd find Mystic and Hammer, who was surely the one snoring? Savant moved to the base of the dock as silently as he could.

Once he reached there, he said in a voice quiet enough as to not disturb Hammer, but loud enough for Mystic to hear--which wasn't much, considering the near-silence of the lake area. "Hey stranger," he said, "or should I say Church?"

Mystic had mistaken the rustle of the grass behind her as some rabbit or the wind, but when Savant snuck up behind her and whispered in her ear she jumped, and did everything she could to keep herself from yelping out loud. "Jesus-SHIT Savant!" she whispered back harshly. She had been so startled her fishing rod had fallen into the water. There was no current, so it didn't go anywhere, and just bobbed delicately beneath the dock. She put a hand on her chest, presumably to calm her racing heart. "I didn't know men woke up this early," she commented dryly, gesturing to the tent when a happily unconscious Hammer snored peacefully.

She stood up, stretching her arms. Her pants had a makeshift belt; a thick rope tied around through the loops, which supported them around her hips. She drew the shirt back over her shoulder the best she could. She could remember that Savant had wandering eyes. "You don't have to worry about being quiet around him. He's a good guard, but once he's asleep it'll take a troll to wake him up." To prove her point, she walked past him, kicking the foot that was jutting out of the tent hard. He grunted, but did nothing.

Smiling, Mystic turned back to Savant, hands on her hips. Suddenly, her eyes lit up. "Oh, have you passed through Bowerstone yet? The weapons shop is finally back up after that robbery. They caught the thief and they're sending him to the Bargate Prison. It must've been a lot he stole, I didn't know they even used that prison anymore."
